...all day the news is filled with hand-wringing..."how could such a senseless thing happen"...."what possible reason is there for such cruel acts"....well. the United States has placed itself outside of international law...why wouldn't its citizens do the same at home? Got a problem? Kill someone. The NRA solution is that everyone in that theatre should have been armed...then they could have "foiled" the plot....except for how many innocent bystanders would go down in a hail of bullets being sprayed from the audience as well?

The Second Amendment has been fucked over for decades and twisted out of all shape....the People have a right to arm themselves into an "organized" MILITIA...not individual cowboys...the ease with which any nut can get a hold of repeating rifles..let's just call them machine guns, and repeating pistols, is the real issue here....we will always have nut jobs, but is arming the entire nation a way to deal with it?

When the Framers Framed the Constitution there was barely a standing army, no militia to speak of and no police, or National Guard....in that atmosphere of course people needed to defend themselves. We ARE the government...we, the PEOPLE, through ourselves have more militias and armies and cops and highway patrols than any police state ever did, and all of them made up of WE THE BPEOPLE....we HAVE what the Constitution promised us...we don't need private cowboys.

As usual all the wrong questions are being asked...hell, more people are killed each year (11,000) by guns than were ever killed in ONE attack on 9/11...yet we have turned ourselves inside out to "protect" us from terrorists, while we do nothing about the greater carnage each year by which so many of us die...many more people are killed by alcohol than in 9/11....more even by cigarettes, yet guns and alcohol and booze are protected, our lives be damned, while our travel and freedom from unlawful search and seizure and other valid protections are being swept away day by day...are THOSE rights not worth protecting? How come we only go apeshit over "Islamists"?

And this guy wasn't Black...and he isn't Muslim...he was a graduate student, a PhD candidate in neurological science....about as WHITE as you can get and hardly disadvantaged...except he is crazy...and you can get very far in life in America BEING crazy....because our system has gone CRAZY!

It's like our quest for artificial "intelligence". We HAVE it already...it is US! It is what passes for intelligence these days....all we had to do was badly educate enough children until the level of their intelligence dropped down below the level of a toaster-oven and then we didn't NEED to invent much in the way of ANY intelligence....we have people who can barely find their way home and who think evolution is a theory....soon we will produce "brilliant" computers which can actually "think"....but only because we don;t know how to do it any more.

The theatre chain will get sued, of course and their insurance companies will insist that they put in "security measures"....and we'll all go around jumpy, for a time, until the next attack.....we'll worry when our kids go to the movies...and maybe their revenues will drop...they certainly will in the short run....you can't make yourself safe or secure, with one hand, while making your own existence very unsafe and insecure....just can't be done.

We have met the enemy...and it is us.

NeoCons will scoff at anyone seeking "reasons" for this sort of thing, because they make fun of Reason, they fear Reason....Reason will expose them and their Jesus, so naturally they fear it...it threatens the franchise. Instead they will "pray"...they will, "send our prayers to the family and loved ones"...but they will fight any effort to DO something, other than react, and arm the people. So then we'll live in fire-zones. Why not? If Iraqis have to go through this, if they have to suffer the consequences of our mad and truly senseless behavior, why shouldn't we pay as well?
