My father can speak english fluently, but that doesn't make him an English man. Speaking a language doesn't make one of those people. The point is assyrian nationalists claim that they are the only indigenous people of mesopotamia and they use the aramaic language and birth as their evidence and there are the more silly ones who say "we use names like Ashur and the ancients also used it." But those things don't prove anything. Aramaic was a common language adopted by many people and mesopotamia was a melting pot and various peoples moved there at one time or another. There is no way that one people of one religion in particular can be purely related to a people that lived thousands of years ago while everyone else is a foreigner. We speak aramaic, and our nationalist think that's enough to prove we are true assyrians because the ancients also adopted aramaic, but others also spoke it. A person who speaks greek doesn't become a descendant of Plato just as being born in Arizona doesn't make one a real Navaho. People come and go.

The only people in denial are the nationalists. Saying that Simon Parpola refuted John Joseph is also silly and it's no different than saying a janitor refuted a lawyer in the field of law. We are not kurds and we are from the same community who were brought up with the same prejudices and taught the same stories. Why does one become a kurd just because we challenge the nationalists? We are here and not running. Anyone can come and post here without fearing of being banned. There isn't even a registration process yet they all run after a few minutes. Many have come and gone since I been on here and many many more were on here before me who also ran. Assyrians just use their opinions and what they learned from their church as proof and "facts." There is a difference between a fact and an opinion. I remember a person telling me that he knew the truth in his hard and wasn't going to change and another told me what's true to me is not true for him and what's true for him is not true for me. That's a confusion between opinion and facts.

An assyrian getting arrested for sedition is not persecution unless a native american getting arrested for sedition is also persecution. Why is it a crime for iraq to punish its people for causing sedition but not a problem for australia or america? Everyone knows what the whites did to the real americans and committed a genocide and stole the land. The christians of mesopotamia were not persecuted by islam but were rather protected and respected. The natives were never given a choice to pay a small tax and be left alone. They were seized, murdered and relocated to death camps. Our boys complain about being thrown in jail for running away from iraqi military yet native americans seen much worse. Black people, native Americans, Aborigenees, and jews have seen far more persecution that assyrians have under islam.

Christians and suraye lives peacefully in the Ottoman empire for 700 years without a problem. Why would they suddenly decide to kill us? We were not persecuted for being christian or assyrian but we were at times punished for betraying our countries and siding with the invaders. We did it in 1915 and we did it for the British and then we say we suffered a genocide. But since the nationalists care so much for the well being of christians, america murdered 600,000 iraqi babies with sanctions. About 30,000 of those babies were from christian families. Why is there no crying about that? Why doesn't aprim add them to his list? His web site is full of stories which he pulls out of his ass, but here we have something that is documented and admitted by the UN itself. What do they say about that?
