This one is in Australia....here is their policy statement... The Assyrian Australian Social Development Club Inc. is a non-profit incorporation based in Melbourne, Australia. We are a membership based organisation relying solely on voluntary subscriptions and our purposes are: To Preserve and maintain the Assyrian cultural heritage. To Encourage women and young people to actively take a leading role in community development projects. To encourage the community to integrate into the Australian society as a whole. To help members of the Assyrian community understand the Australian way of life and respect its multicultural and democratic system. To provide financial and / or moral support to Assyrians living in countries where they are victims of war, terrorist activities, or natural disasters. We do not support any group (including Assyrians) which act against Australian interests, whether in Australia or abroad. ....it is interesting to note those sections that deal with learning about Auatralian society, understanding and respecting Australian society which must include their laws and customs.....has any assyrian organization ever, and I do mean EVER, issued such a policy statement about Iraq? Have assyrians ever admonished each other to respect Iraqi society and laws....would the assyrians of Australia DARE to remind Australians that they stole the lands of the INDIGENOUS PEOPLE of Australia and that they must immediately be given back? No, of course not...they know better than that....when they are in Australia!...trying to get along and do well and prosper and keep out of jail...do you suppose they're going to tell the present Australian government that they are USURPERS and must immediately leave? of course not, because they want to GET ALONG...in Australia...but, at the same time these assyrians and others are railing against the Christians in Iraq for DARING to do the same; to try to understand and get along and make the best of it and NOT offend their host nation.... ...very interesting indeed. --------------------- |
