General Agha-Butros & Minister Agha-Jan Posted By: YAN Date: Wednesday, 8 August 2007, at 5:19 p.m. A patriot is evaluated by his deeds and the good services that he renders to his people. Example: The legendary Agha-Butros served his people at war. He showed extreme bravery and people remember him with pride. Agha-Butros is alive in hearts of many. ...no doubt he was brave, as were the man who served with him(my great-uncle and grandfather included),,,but I'm not sure he served his people well in terms of results. Marshimun's decision to throw in his lot with the British was not something Agha Poutrous agreed with...I'm not sure just how it served the interests of the Christians of the Ottoman Empire to have a band of Christians take pay and weapons from the very people making war against the Ottomans...for one thing they were forced to leave their lands in Hakkari to go to Mosul...the Iraqis considered them refugees who'd made themselves unwelcome in their old lands and villages because of their treachery to the Ottoman Empire...MarShimun screwed up again when he encouraged his followers to go to Syria...which led directly to the retaliation of Semele....all in all it seems that, despite personal bravery, the actions of these people made life only more difficult for the Christians...just as the actions of this latest batch of nationalists, all of them lacking any personal bravery and all of them making vain threats from safety...will only bring more ruin to the Iraqi Christians. Christians living in Iraq have never wanted their own enclave...they have instead tried to be loyal citizens of the nation of Iraq..it is the ones who've left for the West and been lost to Americanization who make these futile calls...back home they could see themselves as a special minority...in the West, where there's a Christian under every rock, their Christianity is nothing special...seeking for the simplest way to distinguish themselves they latched onto the notion that they are lineal descendants of Ashurbanipal...because it's painless, takes no courage or even action, besides pleading and begging..and it makes them feel important...their posturing can only hurt the Iraqi Christians...as it already has. --------------------- |
