Re: BRAVO to Assyrian Student Movement By:Baklawa Date: Thursday, 7 December 2006, at 6:07 pm In Response To: BRAVO to Assyrian Student Movement (Sandra) Hi khatee, I'm not sure what this is in reference to, but just wanted to make a small point. Yes, I agree that all three speakers presented themselves well and each made very interesting points. ...name ONE. However, let's give credit where credit is due; Narsai David has worked tirelessly for Assyrians and has done an amazing job as President of the AAS. He mentions the name "Assyrian" at every opportunity, be it during interviews on local Bay Area radio, or while speaking at the Gilroy Garlic Festival! ...I'll tell you a secret...when I met him in 1983 Narsai had removed himself from your community for some time swearing he would never work with Assyrians again...I was able to bring him back because he saw in the effort to gain exposure for our Heritage in the outside world something he could believe in, because it was something he was already doing...I managed to fire up his enthusiasm...something people like Danavi and you had killed...not only did he agree to form the Assyrian Foundation For The Arts but he said he would take on the job as president...for three years we travelled the country giving talks that RESULTED in something...we were able to inspire Assyrians, who had also been turned off by you and Danavi, to donate $130,000...something unheard of till then...for art, no less. ...after the first monument Narsai got suckered into sending aid to Christians in Iraq...the Aids society took a finely honed scalpel and are using him to peel potatoes....but he was moved to tears and thought he had to do something...I agreed with that...but thought band-aids to Christians was a silly idea...especilly when it was Christians WOUNDING the Christians of Iraq. But that's what he wanted to do and since he supported my work, I did what I could to support his...the AIDS Society has made a calandar of photos of my sculpture to raise funds...the first year they raised $10,000 for Iraq from the sale of one of my sculptures...and this year they raised five thousand. plus which $16,000 was raised from the sale of another sculpture...Narsai asked if I'd be willing to donate a sculpture a year...so they can afford to feed Joseph Danavi, and I said of course. People (especially us Assyrians!) will always find something to gripe about. Even while being served some of the best cuisine by the nation's top chefs ..they were not the nation's top anything...they were all local...can you people NEVER speak the truth? I don't know how often you eat out but that was some of the worst food I ever ate...if that sort of thing impresses you, you'll love dining in Kurdistan ...you should broaden your horizons...fortunately no one comes for the food...it's good of Narsai to try to expose you savages to something besides kipti...but I'd prefer kipti to fried rat any day...I don't care how big the plate. I overheard our people tartoomeh! So don't worry about a little comment here or there. The event was another success for the AAS and for our people go atra. ...it was a succces for Narsai and the AIDS Society...it's hardly a scuccess for the Christians of Iraq...Iraq was a wealthy nation...the people of Iraq didn't need charity from the United States or job offers from American universities UNTIL you Christians came killing and destroying...you took away their livlihood, their homes, their security and their dignity...and now you praise yourselves for sending them peanuts and you expect GRATITUDE for it! At least they have less mouths to feed...why don't you take credit for that as well? Love, Baklawa --------------------- |
