LIFE OF LUCIAN THERE is no ancient biography of Lucian extant excepting an unsatisfactory sketch by Suidas; but we can gather many facts as to his life from his own writings. He expressly tells us that he was a Syrian or Assyrian, ..let's stop there. Which is it? Does he "expressly" say he is Syrian...or does he "expressly" say he is Assyrian? How can you expressly say you are two things? And if they were synonyms...why do non-sacred historians call him only one thing...Syrian? Like I said...I'll take the word of historians...let sacred people plan heaven. and that Samosata was his native place, the capital of Commagene, situated on the right or western bank of the Euphrates. ...when looking at a map, the right bank of the Euphrates would be the eastern bank...the left bank would be the Western.
