....religious folk and their organizations have good reason to be afraid of same-sex marriage. Because down that road lies questions and challenges to tax-exempt status for churches who refuse Gay couples their services. It isnīt as simple as telling religious folk not to marry persons of their same sex and let the rest of us do as we want...after all we arenīt hurting anyone....by "we" I mean all of uswho support equal rights period. It isnīt that the government will force churches to perform wedding ceremonies for Gay couples...itīs that if they refuse, which they have every right to, their gay parishoners, and the rest of us, may wonder why our tax dollars must fill the gap left by non-taxed income of churches whom we subsidize to engage in discrimination? Thatīs what theyīre afraid of...because if Gay marriage is legalized, as it should be, churches will have to decide if their prejudiced beliefs are worth the scarifice of their tax-exempt status....we citizens should not be forced to pay the taxes for organizations who then discriminate against us...against all of us. Great day in the morning...who ever thought Gays would fight the essential battles of liberty for us? --------------------- |
