...the NRA has almost succeeded at convincing us that the Constitution promised every Ameriican the right to own as many and whatever guns they wanted...that's not what it says...not even close.

It says the the states have the right to a "well-regulated militia"...it says nothing about individuals owning all the guns they want...besides which, if we're going to go "back to our Founders" then let everyone have a flintlock, and nothing else.

Each state has a National Guard...THAT is the "well-regulated militia"...there os nothing REGULATED at all in the way things stand now...in fact, neo-con nuts are DESPERATE to get rid of all regulations...but the word is right there in the Constitution "well REGULATED"...it says.

Back then when there was no federal army and the Colonists were afraid of even having a standing army because of their experiences in Europe, they wanted each state to be able to defend itself, and so each state was given the right to form a well regulated militia...the neo-cons have just seized on a buzz-issue guaranteed to get the nuts to the voting booth...like Jesus is also a drawing card.
