...why has it been and still is the bloodiest religion ever known to human beans?...and skip the "these are not REAL Christians" crap....if this is what Christianity produces in large quantities, then there's something dreadfully wrong with it.

...part of the reason may be that Christianity wasn't developed by a desert tribe as were Judaism and Islam. Christianity may have been formulated in its earliest version by tribespeople but it was refined and industrialized and "spread" by an empire and not just any empire but one of the most successful and influential...the Roman Empire...which even went on to re-name itself the HOLY Roman Empire.

...One has to ask why Constantine ever chose this as the state religion. It wasn't because he was won over to Jesus, or even because of his fable about his vision of Jesus. The Romans were immensely practical and he had practical reasons for choosing this religion above all the others he could have forced on his people and his conquests.

At the time there were over 100 nations under Roman imperial rule....consolidating his rule must have been uppermost on his mind...just as later European kings insisted that all their subjects must be of ONE religion or else chaos would ensue.....Rome was infested by various religions and cults all mashed together or at war with each other....but why pick Jesus as the unifying force? Maybe because he spoke of a universal brotherhood, even though it would become a bloody brotherhood more akin to the Mafia than any hippie conclave....still, it was a unifying force and that was his priority.

It also had other advantages...giving to Caesar what he demanded must have won Constantine over....plus the imposition, at birth, of horrendous guilt which could never really be expiated but served as a useful tool of social control and demoralization....which had the happy effect of requiring less cops on the beat because the church very early on put one inside the head of ever baby to be born to this religion.

It doesn't help that the religion is born in murder and teaches that in this first great murder, somehow, lay "salvation"....such teachings could make a Christians cozy with murder, so long as a tremendous benefit was to be had, like say, eternal life OR cheap oil. Some things are worth dying for, and killing for, so teaches God and his church. Look at the love affair with supposed martyrs who found glory in being killed...but were told NOT to kill themselves, even to turning the other cheek and getting more of the same, maybe even martyrdom, if done right.

The Christian faith is far too wrapped up with killing and being killed...that may have been its principal attraction to the ever-killing Romans. It had to appeal to an Empire for SOME reason...I mean why not enforce the religion of Jove or Isis or Baal or Milcolm or any one of the hundreds of gods available at the time? Why Jesus, exactly?

The idea of being "saved" was certainly appealing...as was the fact that you could sin mightily until your last breath and still get in....divine "forgiveness" they called it so that God was ready to forgive all of your crimes against the rest of his children if only you "repented" at the end, consigning millions of victims to death and worse by way of "improving" YOU.

Christianity forgives people their crimes...crimes which any decent person wouldn't want to commit in the first place...but just in case, just in case the emperor needed you to be a murderer and rapist and torturer and thief, you could still obey him, and enjoy it too, and yet get saved anyway. That was something entirely new and powerful...it allowed god-fearing people to turn savage beyond belief and still join the hallowed Elect.

Pretty powerful stuff to teach children. And oh yes, not to forget the regular diet of human flesh and blood...that couldn't have helped any.....plus hanging instruments of death and torture in miniature form and in gold around the necks of children......sigh.
