Actually, at the teach-in I attended on Saturday, someone was giving a talk, & part of that talk was about contacting your local congressperson. For every person who contacts his/her congressperson, that indicates that there are approximately 10 people who also feel the same way in that congressperson’s constituency (Of course the number of people each individual who calls in represents to the congressperson varies from district to district). So, that’s how small numbers, relative to population size, actually can carry a much bigger political implication. That’s also the reason why the media here in the States is so reluctant to give the general public the actual numbers of protesters present. The numbers may be small in comparison to the population of the U.S., but the implication is HUGE.

The fact that half a million anti-war protesters (from MANY different backgrounds) were present in Washington D.C. on Saturday & a counter-protest of only about 100 people or so occurred simultaneously is actually indicative of a much larger number of people who are anti-war. The people in D.C. who protested against the war came from far & wide & braved horrible weather conditions in their travels to do so - that's extra special effort. So, in fact, it is actually indicative of not only a much larger anti-war sentiment in the general public that those people merely represented, BUT also indicative of HOW MUCH those people, from all sorts of political backgrounds, disapprove of another war against Iraq.

Anti-war sentiments are becoming mainstream, & Bush & his corporate cohorts are afraid of this.
