This e-mail is in regards to an Assyrian girl from Syria who is dying of cancer.
Being the head of Assyrian media in Northern Iraq I felt that this e-mail requesting media support should be sent to you.
Her name is Lina Nissan. She has been diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia also known as CML. CML is a cancer of blood cells located in the bone marrow. Many of these leukemic cells can be found circulating in the blood. Although she has been taking interferon, which is a drug that is used to treat the leukemia, a bone marrow transplant is desperately needed to save Lina's life.
Although her brother David has been found to be a donor match, she is unable to receive the transplant. Currently a bone marrow transplant is unavailable in Lina's homeland of Syria. As verified by her oncologist Dr. Z. Abdul Hadi (Diplomat-American Board of Medical Oncology in Damascus, Syria), Lina has a great chance of recovering if she receives a transplant. She is still young and her body is still developing so receiving a bone marrow from her brother would possibly cure her. Her family and friends have been working towards bringing her to Canada to get the bone marrow transplant. We have contacted the hospitals in Toronto and they have informed us that a minimum of $180,000 is need to be paid in full before any further steps are taken to bringing her here. This price does not include any additional medication and or possible hospitalization that she may require.
Your help is needed in order to advertise Lina's plight throughout North Iraq and collect a symbolic donation from our people. I hope you can use the media resources of Ashur TV, Ashur Radio, Bahra, Mezalta, Nahrenita, Banipal and Khiwa D'Bet Nahrain.
I also realise that our people here live day to day use ration cards supplied by the UN Oil-For-Food program and are lucky to eat meat once a month, yet I am positive that most will donate a couple of dinars in order to help Lina live.
