One of my best friends, a Korean medical student at Brown, was talking with me over the phone a few days ago. We were discussing the anniversary of 9/11, & I expressed a lot of concern over violence that I anticipate will occur against Muslims or anyone who looks ethnically Middle Eastern on this anniversary. & she said that she understood my sentiments - on Victory over Japan Day, which is officially recognized in Rhode Island, violence against Asian Americans increases 300%.
