suits are a bit dicer for the public figure.

A public figure may be an elected or appointed (a politician) or someone
who has stepped into a public controversy (e.g., movie stars and TV
stars, star athletes). Public figures have a "harder road to toll" than
the average person since they must prove that the party defaming them
knew the statements were false, made them with actual malice, or was
negligent in saying or writing them. Proving these elements makes the
chance of a successful lawsuit slim.

++++Shawn says Jackie isn't a public figure...you know why he says that. I say she is one, especially where our community is concerned...and this all played out in our community, THAT is the "public" here.

We will thrash out what a public figure is. I'd say being president of a foundation and having your own television show which reaches anyone in the area who cares to watch, makes her a public figure, who is obviously not trying to hide...and seeks recognition whenever she can.

++++I spoke the truth about this public figure and not from any casual contact I had with her. I knew her for almsot seven years, she bought thousands of dollars worth of sculpture from me, she interviewed me on her TV show. As any number of my friends told me I must have been insane to anger such a patron...Nimrod too for that matter. People who know me better, or themselves, know I didn't become an artist for money. I would not have done any of this if it wasn't important...making people angry or alienating patrons was hardly my motivation, not after having worked for so many years to get here. No, no...a jury will have no trouble seeing the truth here...and neither will the rest of us.
